Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct - Elmbridge Eagles Rugby League Club

Let's enjoy Rugby League and the oldest community R. L. club in London that generations have cherished:

Elmbridge Eagles R. L.

The Elmbridge Eagles R. L. management is committed to maintaining the highest standards of behaviour from all those associated with our club. We do not tolerate misconduct of any kind, including but not limited to violent, abusive, discriminatory or illegal acts, from players, volunteers, coaches, officials, parents, or spectators.

These expectations apply equally to members of visiting teams and their supporters.

Should any issues arise that require disciplinary action, the club commits to handling these through a fair and reasonable process.

We ask all members and supporters to respect match officials' decisions and refrain from disputing or challenging decisions during or after matches.

Any significant concerns should be communicated through appropriate channels to club management, who will liaise with the Rugby Football League (RFL) when necessary.

Misconduct including unsporting behaviour, discriminatory language or behaviour, harassment and abusive or aggressive conduct contravenes the values of Elmbridge Eagles R. L. and will be addressed firmly in accordance with the club's constitution and RFL guidelines.

Elmbridge Eagles Online: Social Media, Messaging and Digital Communication

We use tools like Spond, WhatsApp, and social media to stay connected as a club and to let the world know who we are —and they’re fantastic for sharing team news, updates, and celebrating our Rugby League  community.

It’s really important we all use them safely and respectfully, especially when communicating with or about children and young people.

This guidance is here to help everyone—players, parents, coaches, and volunteers—understand what’s okay and what’s not when using digital platforms.

For Coaches and Volunteers

- Always use Spond or approved club WhatsApp groups for team communication. These groups should be open, appropriate, and communication to players under 18 goes via their parents or guardians and not direct.
- Do not send private messages to players under 18 on WhatsApp, social media, or any other platform.
- Do not follow, accept or send friend requests to players under 18 on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or similar platforms.
- Only share photos or videos of players if you have permission from their parent or guardian.
- Avoid posting or forwarding anything that could be perceived as critical, disrespectful, or offensive—this includes comments about players, other teams, match officials, or the league.
- Keep all communication positive, supportive, and appropriate to your role.

For Players (Under 18)

- Don’t message your coach privately, follow on X (formerly Twitter) or Instagram or send friend requests on Facebook or similar platforms to adult volunteers—they can’t accept.
- Be careful about what you post and who can see it. Once something’s online, it’s hard to take back.
- Always ask permission before sharing photos or videos of teammates.
- If anything online makes you feel worried or upset, talk to a parent, coach, or the Club Welfare Officer. We’ve got your back.

For Parents and Guardians

- You’re welcome to join Spond and WhatsApp groups used for team communication. These should stay respectful and focused on club matters.
- Don’t post photos of other children without permission from their parent or guardian.
- Avoid using social media or posting online to air frustrations about the club or coaches. If something’s not right, speak to your team coach or the Club Welfare Officer—we’re always here to help.
- Take time to check your child’s online activity. Make sure they’re safe and being kind online.

A Quick Legal Reminder

- Sharing or possessing indecent images of anyone under 18 is against the law—even if the young person took the photo themselves.
- Bullying, abusive language, or threatening posts online can lead to serious consequences, including disciplinary or legal action.
- If you're unsure whether something is appropriate to share—don’t. Ask a coach or our Club Welfare Officer.
